Institute of Medical Biology, A*Star

Skin Biology Cluster, Singapore

The Institute of Medical Biology, A*Star, Skin Biology Cluster, Singapore, was established in 2010 to promote and facilitate the growth of skin research and to grow its translational links with industry and the clinical community. Activities include the establishment of tools and resources for skin research (including an Asian skin cell bank, skin phenotyping, state of the art microscopy, culture and disease models and molecular histopathology), research on translational topics (skin barrier function and disorders, ageing, inflammation) and multilevel networking and training programs. Supported by major government funding, the Institute of Medical Biology is leading an expansion of skin biology research in Singapore that over the next year will establish a Singapore Skin Research Centre, a three-way partnership between IMB (research and translation), the National Skin Centre (clinical) and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU (academic), to advance cutting-edge skin research in the region.
