This project encompasses the organization and the coordination of the SFB as well as two rotation positions for clinician scientists. A major aim of the SFB is to bridge basic research and the clinic. It is therefore crucial to include researchers with active clinically duties as principal investigators. Rotation positions that replace the clinical duties of these PIs are instrumental to allow them to only concentrate on research for an extended time period. Over the years we have had excellent experience with such positions, which have helped to dramatically improve the working conditions of clinician scientists. This project also includes funding for three animal care takers, who will staff the new animal facilities, and are essential to execute the extensive mouse work common to all projects of the SFB.
