SFB 829 Guest Scientist Tudorita Tumbar from Cornell University

Tudorita Tumbar graduated from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and continued her training in the laboratory of Elaine Fuchs, where she focused on the generation of novel techniques to isolate, characterize and follow the dynamics of epidermal stem cell populations. She moved to Cornell University in Ithaca in 2004 where she set up her independent laboratory. Her main research interest is the regulation of cell fate choice and stem cell activity by epigenetic regulation, transcription regulation and chromatin modifying factors. In addition, her laboratory has a special focus on the interaction of epithelial stem cells with their surrounding environment, such as blood vessels, nerves, fat cells, and fibroblast and their impact on tissue homeostasis.

Tudorita Tumbar spends a 3-month sabbatical at the University of Cologne and works as a guest scientist within the SFB 829 until December 2019. The main purpose of her stay in Cologne is to explore new research perspectives, share her scientific expertise and establish new collaborations.
