The SFB 829 Starting Grant for Female Postdoc was awarded to Dr. Snehlata Kumari

The SFB 829 will fund Dr. Snehlata Kumari’s research for the next two years to promote her scientific independence. Dr. Kumari is interested in melanoma formation as a form of cutaneous cancer. Melanoma is originated from transformed melanocytes under the influence of complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors. The aim of her project is to understand the role of IL- 20 family cytokine network in melanoma pathogenesis, which were previously identified as crucial cytokines in maintaining skin homeostasis.

Unfortunately, the gender inequality, especially at higher career levels, in research is still a key concern at both international and national level. With this Grant the SFB wants contribute to the growth of the representation of female scientists in leadership positions.
